Less advertising! More community involvement!

What is advertising?

A way for companies to showcase their products or services and connect with potential customers.

Does it help the community?

The answer is no with the exception of a few awareness-raising campaigns. We believe there are better ways to reach the community and make an impact while doing so.

Instead of spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on traditional advertising campaigns we believe that the money is better spent on community initiatives. We urge the city to provide bike lanes, we constantly give away bicycles and accessories to charities and businesses, and we create local events to encourage communal participation. I guess you could say this is the way we advertise.

How were staying involved:

  • Clemson University Urban Planning Committee

Owner, Daniel Russell-Einhorn, attends bicycle planning meeting hosted by Clemson Urban Planning Committee

This organization of students is working hard in Charleston to create bicycle lanes and a public bicycle center in downtown Charleston. We are working closely with them to make sure their initiatives become a reality.
  • Charleston Hurricane Wheelchair Basketball Team

Affordabike donates bicycle accessories to be given away at wheelchair basketball game

The North Charleston Hurricanes wheelchair basketball team is affiliated with Achieving Wheelchair Equality (AWE). AWE is a local non-profit organization dedicated to educating and encouraging disabled athletes in the local community. One of the cornerstones of our success has been our ability to build partnerships within the community to support a great cause and spread awareness. Visit http://www.knology.net/~drc/awe/
  • Barcamp “Wiki” Conference Charleston

Owner, Daniel Russell-Einhorn speaks at Barcamp about new forms of electric and human powered transportation as well as world trade.

Barcamp holds conferences all over the country that allow the attendees to be the speakers as well. Speakers give a 30 second pitch about what they would like to speak about and then attendees sign up for the speeches accordingly. This was a great opportunity for owner, Daniel Russell-Einhorn to speak about new forms of electric and human powered transportation. There are many companies and organizations that would benefit greatly from speaking at these free conferences.
